Watching Over Me 16x20  Metal on Metal

You ask me to tell you more about me, myself and I

And I know you wonder why my eyes don’t cry

So I ask of you to take a step within my mind

To see the reflections I know you’ll find

It’s easier than spoken words or what you might hear

Come in, close the door, take a seat my dear

For there is much to tell and pictures to reveal

This and that and things I no longer want to conceal

A past that’s hazy and contorted             at times

And stories that don’t fit these rhythmic rhymes

And I may say something to which you don’t agree

But, truth is, I’ve always had someone watching over me

I was a fighter before I was born

Instead of a rose, I was the thorn

My life was almost over before it started

A forgotten, secret dearly departed

But my light couldn’t be put out

It’s something I just don’t care to think about

That sometimes love isn’t just given because

Because of this, that, or what was

And shedding a tear didn’t erase the past

It only made the pain live and last

Then I heard a voice say to set it free

And it was that someone watching over me

And that someone said things have changed from what it was then

No longer here, just where you’ve been

You’ve known hate and you’ve known sin

Now it’s time to find the peace within

And choose to walk the path of Zen

Now I’ve walked this journey thus far on my own

Sometimes feeling life’s chill to the bone

Stumbling, falling here and there

Picking myself up, saying a prayer

Looking upon a star, wishing for more

Hoping someone heard what I was asking for

Simply love given just because I’m here

For a heart to hold me close and near

Somebody strong who would always care

And then you were there

Because someone watching over me

Heard my pleas

So I hope you understand why my eyes don’t cry

Is just that I feel everything so deep inside

My past is not who I am, just where I’ve been

Much has changed from what it was then

I’m thankful it has led to what has come to be

You also watching over me

The Heart  11x14  metal on metal

Once upon a time, not so long ago

Within a mighty castle, upon a hilltop high

Hidden within the cold stone walls

An echo is heard of a lonely cry

For here a solitary heart did live

Protected by the sanctuary, but all alone

Imprisoned by a spell none could break

Bound and chained upon a single throne

Awaiting a brave knight who was strong and true

Who could battle the dragon that guarded the walls so tall

And climb the tower that reached high into the sky

Up beyond the clouds, where angels fear to fall

Upon this throne of one the heart did rule

A kingdom without love, but a kingdom still

Thinking upon the curse cast long ago

That foretold of the solitude and time’s bitter chill

But the heart was unaware a knight, strong and true, had set upon a quest

Seeking his fortune and fate

On a journey to find the one who to him would wed

Searching for the forlorn voice of his soul’s mate

One day, the knight came upon the castle where the heart did rule

And looked up at the tower in the clouds so high

Upon the cold, stone walls of the fortress tall

When he heard a familiar echo of a heart’s lonely cry

Then the dragon did roar and the knight drew his powerful sword

The battle was fierce, but the knight did prevail… and the dragon fell

Up the tower steps the knight did climb, higher and higher until he reached the throne where the heart did reign

Gently he touched the beating heart and with a single kiss, broke the potent spell

Within that solitary kiss, the heart and knight knew it was fate

And that their soul’s had finally found their mate

Merely a fairy tale some may say

But fairy tales do come true, for it did for me… when a knight fought a dragon, climbed a tower and kissed a lonely heart one fateful day

Not so long ago, and not so far away

No More 11x14 wooden plaque

We’ve been here before and here we are again

Your forgetfulness and arrogance is a deadly sin

You think of only you and one other that’s yourself

Oh put that worn out book back on the dusty shelf

I’m tired of worrying, tired of wondering why

Tired of living in the dark and a not so little lie

Got to turn on the light and let the truth shine

Have I just been getting old and wasting time?

And as a matter-of-fact

I got lost in limbo, no cool breeze to clear the dirty air

Trapped in a one-way love not going nowhere

Clouded mirrors and fading memories dull the pain

Now a new life knocks at the door and whispers my name

And as I walk out this life, won’t get hit by that door

I’m done talking, done waiting, done asking what for

Not going to live with regret or questions why

Not going to say good luck or even utter sweet goodbye

And as a matter-of-fact

No more echoes in my head

No more replaying hurtful words said

No more who did that or who did this

No more aimlessly wandering in a hallucinatory bliss

No more broken promises or shattered dreams

No more wondering what it all means

No more that I can or want to do

And no more you

As a matter-of-fact

Forward to Backward 11x14 wooden plaque
Urban Dreams  8x12 Metal

Shhhh… Sounds of the city echoes against the walls

As a child wipes, wipes sleep from her eyes

Shadows fade, fade from view

And the sun rises as her dream slowly, slowly flies

Hear the urban beats along these streets

Where asphalt and concrete, concrete meets

Pulsing, breathing…

Pulsing breathing…hear the heart beats

A man stumbles from his box

As people pass and look away

Hurriedly going here and there

And thus begins another day

In the shadows, a bagman lurks

Peddling his goods and rock

Working Fourth to Main

This is his street, his home, his block

Little ones play in the dirt yard

As a father worries about daily strife

Tomorrow brings another day

For more and a better life

Hush little baby, don’t you cry

Let your dreams take you high

As you walk to a brighter day

Let the rhythm guide your way

Listen to the beat

Feel the burning heat

Be strong, stand tall

Reach for the sky and want it all

Don’t settle for less or some

Remember where you came from

Work hard, be proud

Let your heart shout out loud…SHOUT

Shhhhh…the city slumbers once again

As mother sings the Sweet Bye and Bye

To babies all tucked in bed

She won’t let, no she won’t let, their urban dreams die

Listen to the beats

Along these streets

Pulsing, breathing, don’t let your dreams die

Keep them alive

Now hush…and hear the rhythm within  your own heart beat

Silent Amen 11x14 wooden plaque
Heaven Bound 11x14 wooden plaque
Me I Find  11x14 wooden plaque

I walk all, all alone

Through dark places once known

Where spirits call softly

Holding me tightly

Caressing me with memories

Memories that bite like a winter

breeze

I gotta find that neon exit door

I don’t want to be here forevermore,

evermore

I looked for sanctuary

In a hidden monastery

Searching for calm, peace & harmony

And the quiet walls they spoke to me

Saying I had to let the past be

Let it be, to find what I seek to see

And got to let go of the anger and strife

Because I got to live, live my life

Seeking the knowledge the prophets know

I walk the path gently below

Need to stop knocking on those doors

Disturbing the ghosts that walk those floors

Leave them be, stop messing with them

Let them die in the rooms they’re in

And need to let go of the hurt and pain

Forgiveness need to strive, strive to attain

So take my hand, walk with me

To the light I now see

Away from where this cold survives

To where I can say my goodbyes

Going leave those spirits alone

In those dark places once known

Ain’t going hang around here no more

And return nevermore

Because I’m not going to let the past rule my troubled mind

I’m going to leave that behind

And, I’m going to cut those rusty chains that bind

Because only then, can me, me I find

And to those spirits who called so softly

Who once held me so tightly…

With relief and a sigh

I bid thee a fond farewell and goodbye

Precious Miracle  11x14 wooden plaque

Only You 11x14 wooden plaque

In a crowded smoky room of lies

Choking on deception and false goodbyes

You’re a fresh breeze

That flows over me

Breathing life into my soul

Giving me peace I’ve ever known

Guiding me with your light

Like a beacon in the night

When the past fogs my mind

With empty memories of another time

You break through the darkness

With a touch and a single kiss

You keep away the dreary cold

And fear shadows hold

You’re a sunny lazy day

Inviting me to stay

Leaving me with not a care

And wherever you are, I’ll be there

Because I only want to be with you

And I hope you feel the same way too

Don't Judge Me  11x14 wooden plaque

If you ain’t been where I have

been

Seen what I have seen

Walked in my shoes

Or paid my dues

I ask that you Don’t judge me

Cuz you don’t got the eyes the

see

I’m going to tell my story, and

Tell it straight

Perhaps you too can relate

Times ain’t been easy that’s for

sure

Now and then more than I could

endure

Trials and temptations hanging

round my door

Someone always asking and

wanting more

Been hit up, messed up, and let

down

And dizzy from all the round

and round

I’ve felt anger and pain in this

life

Been the reflection of battling

strife

I’m done looking back, going to

look ahead

No longer care who did that or

what was said

Not going hold grudges, but

forgive instead

Keep moving forward until the day

I’m dead

I ain’t got no more hurt all bottled up inside

No more regrets, no more lies

Learned one and one ain’t always two

Sometimes just nothing left to do

But keep getting up and moving on

Because tomorrow brings a new dawn

And I’ve learned not to listen to   what they say

Cuz you got to find your own

 way

And the truth whatever,

          wherever it may be

Look for it and you will see

It matters what you do

So don’t let them lie to you

You hold the power not them

Who are they to judge and

          condemn

So to “them” I say, Don’t Judge you, don’t judge me, Cuz them ain’t

Got the eyes to see

Cuz I know “them” ain’t been where I’ve  been

Seen what I’ve seen

Walked in my shoes

Or paid my dues

And if you know what these words are about

You too can shout it out…

Don’t Judge Me

Cuz you ain’t got the eyes to see

Goodbye  8x10 metal on metal

Adventures in this life wait for you to discover

Every path you take leads to another

And beyond every door

Are passages to places you had never been before

But, the future we do not know what it holds

And sometimes things seem beyond our control

Lost in the unknown and obscure… unsure

As you venture down the path of a life’s detour

Twisting and turning, taking you there and here

To strange new places far and near

Meeting new people as you walk along

Eventually, finding the path to where you belong

And sometimes to those you have met along the way

A fond farewell you must say

As you open a new door

To a new adventure and path you have not been before

And as your life’s journey now takes you away

Know I hope our paths will again cross one day

Just Me 11x14 wooden plaque

I don’t like diamonds and I don’t like

pearls

And I’m not like those Kardashian girls

Living the high life, wearing the bling

Into that fame and fortune thing

As the song says, I learned the truth

at seventeen

Because I was no high school beauty queen

Didn’t fit in, no one knew I was there

But, I’m kind of cool now and just don’t

care

Boy, I’ll treat you right

Won’t want to argue, fuss and fight

I say what I mean, mean what I say

Don’t cry or demand my way

Won’t throw things or shout

Say hurtful words or pout

No, no…I don’t play those bitchy games

Because I’m not like those other dames

I know some say I’m callus and cold

Least that’s what I’ve been told

By those in social circles, you know the sort

Their remarks aren’t worth a retort

Because they smile as they roll their eyes

Wearing the fake friendly disguise

I’ve learned life ain’t always kind

But I’m kind to you, if you’re a friend of mine

And I don’t need this, this and that

To make me stylish and phat

I got it goin’ on

Without playing the con

I’m a mystery, an anomaly

I do things my own way and that’s okay

Because I’m natural and I’m free

To be what I want to be…

            Just me!

 Joker's Wild   11x14 wooden plaque

In the game of live, you’ll learn this

Times gablin’ pays, times it don’t

Fortunes fleeting like a lover’s kiss

Try to find luck, but you won’t

Cuz nothing’s for certain when the Joker’s wild

Stranded on empty, cash is out

Afraid of the dark and the knock on the door

Dazed and confused and down for the count

Reach for the bottle, another drink you’ll pour

Cuz nothing’s for certain when the Joker’s wild

Wicked laughter, evil stare

Sit at the table if you dare

Shaky hands, cold sweat

Cut the deck and place your bet

Fifty-three cards in a hand of poker

You’re playin’ with the joker

Now the chips come in, the sun finally shines

Think it’s owed you cuz life’s been so tough

Go from the bottle to thin white lines

Soon the monies gone, oh there’s never enough

Oh you forgot…never play poker

With the Joker

I Didn't Know  11x14 wooden plaque

Long ago there was no one

The moon was my companion, as was the sun

No human walked among the trees

Or floated upon the seas

All that was, existed in harmony with nature

Created by the creator

From the tiniest of creature, to the biggest and tall

I cherished them all

Every living thing existed as they should, within spheres

Movement controlled by continents, oceans and hemispheres

The air was clean then, the waters too

And all had what was needed to make-do

I ensured checks and balances remained

For all life to sustain

Yin and yang, give and take, moderation

There was no desecration, devastation, or exploitation

But, then one walked upon the land

Known as man

Spreading without care

Taking their fire hither and there

I watched as their disregard for sustainability grew through the ages

Stone, Bronze, Iron and the industrialization stages

Always wanting more, without refrain or restraint

Acting without constraint

I have aged the last 6 million years because of man

Though over 4.5 billion years ago I began

I am showing my age now, and am worn and tired

Intervention by humankind is now required

For you have polluted, plundered and violated

Damaged, destroyed and annihilated

Lacking consideration of adverse outcomes, or of time

Committing senseless offenses, not just a victimless crime

Warning signs you ignore

And not only pollute above, but deep within my core

As anthropogenic pollution abounds

And its results compounds

For the sake of energy, you disregard the negatives of the source

And stay your unyielding course

Not thinking of what to do with the foul waste

Or what will happen to the animals you displace

Why oh why did you build nuclear reactors?

Chernobyl, Fukushima Daiichi and Three Mile Island are just a few disasters

Over hundreds of years the radioactive fuel will slowly decay

Are you safe from this dangerous garbage until that day?

And why did you not further explore renewable resources?

Sun, water and wind forces

Is it because of the net worth of the sum? Politics and greed?

Did the money and power that comes with polluted energy sources cause you to concede?

Disposable this and disposable that

Who has the newest devices is where you have placed your value at

All the while landfills grow exponentially

The sum of it all will catch up eventually

Alas, generations to come will inherit this mess

And I, the earth, am in distress

At humankind, despite their obstinate neglect and abuse, I am not mad

But sad

As my demise is man’s as well

Only time will tell

Tell if the damage done can be put in reverse

Or… if actions by humans will only make it worse

I cannot heal myself, for I am worn and tired

Intervention by the species known as homo sapiens is now required

Sincerely,

Mother Earth

Zombie Waltz  11x14 wooden plaque

The night has fallen on the day

It’s time to come out, out and play

For those who have fallen to the disease

They come to dance to their favorite CDs

The rumors of an apocalypse weren’t false

For it’s time to dance the Zombie Waltz

Smell the rotting flesh in the air

Humans don’t beware

For they follow the music they crave

That which woke them from the grave

From all around they gather downtown

They come to boogie on down

To the club Musica Nella Notte they go

Stumbling rather slow

Their echoing groans are loudly heard

As they’re a rowdy bunch and rather absurd

These rotting corpses so reviled

Just want to get down and get wild

For they feel the beat

Beneath their feet

As if someone gave them smelling salts

They do the Zombie Waltz

As the humans stare aghast and in fear

Afraid to join in, afraid to appear

And as they crouched in corners in horror

One stepped out as an explorer

And bravely walked among the living dead

And wasn’t attacked, but welcomed instead

Even returning a lost finger to its owner

A former long-haired beatnik stoner

The Stoner thanked him and offered to share a toke

With a zombie friend and another human bloke

Soon all came down to join the wild celebration

Without altercation, confrontation or deformation

And until the light of dawn

They partied on

And with an uproar of musical exalts

They did the Zombie Waltz…

Hypnotic sounds that awake the dead

And fill the living with dread

            It’s got the groove

            To make you move

            And creepy beats

            That scarily repeats

It makes you move and dance

            And desire a little romance

They made the most of the night

Before all changed with the light

Dusting off those creepy cobwebs

And acting like Hollywood celebs

Letting their inhibitions die

And their freak flags fly

Partying down before the sun rises, and the party ends

That is… until dusk, when it all again begins

When the stench of corpses once again assaults

You’ll know it’s time to do the Zombie Waltz
